National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen – Eligibility, Benefits, Insurance and Aid

National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen is a centrally sponsored scheme. It plans to provide financial assistance to fishermen for building houses and among other things. For housing, state governments can ensure, an equitable distribution of houses among all villages in proportion to the number of eligible fishermen. The area of the plinth and the cost of building a house would be limited to 35 m2. mts and Rs 40,000 / – respectively. The land ceiling and the cost of construction indicate the upper limit. The state government can plan and ensure that the best possible use is made of available resources so that more houses can be built within the budgeted amount.

Benefits

The marine and inland fishermen are entitled for the benefits under this scheme. Land for the development will be provided by the respective Union Territories and States.

Eligibility

An active fisherman identified by the State Government.
Preference to fishermen below poverty line and to landless fishermen.
Fishermen owning land or kutcha structure may also be considered for allotment of houses under the scheme.
